Admin page for PowerBlogger Flexy theme options

The big change is..  It now has a theme options page in the  admin back-end, where you can easily customize color and style options, without having to dive into the code.  

So it should be more user-friendly, for less technical people.

It’s a version 1.0 (beta) release at present.  The intention is to develop it further, adding more theme customization options over the coming weeks.

PowerBlogger Flexy also includes some other new enhancements, in addition to the admin options:

1. A “Featured Post” facility.  Simply tag a post as “featured” and it will be automatically highlighted at the top of each post page.  Great for offers or special messages, you want your readers to really notice!
2. The theme has been updated to take advantage of new features included in WordPress version 2.7, such as threaded comments.

All you have to do is tag the post as “featured” and it will be highlighted at the top of each blog page, above the other posts.

In particular, changes have been made so images uploaded with the new Wordpress media uploader, display as required.

As you can see, it is right aligned and has a caption underneath.

This was done using the in-built media handler.

It is also hyperlinked to another website.

Another presentation option you might like to use is the quote facility.

If you want to display a block of text like this… just select the speech marks in the editor and start typing.

It makes the piece of content really stand out.

In summary, a number of changes have been made to create this latest version (1.3) of PowerBlogger theme.

While not a radical update, a number of useful improvements have been implemented to make it work better, especially with new versions of Wordpress.

So if you are already using PowerBlogger theme, it will be worthwhile moving to the latest version.

The idea behind PowerBlogger was to create a clean, “non-blog” look, for users who want to use Wordpress more as a content management system (CMS), rather than just a blog.

In this sense, we think PowerBlogger theme can be used to release more of the potential of Wordpress, particularly with the recent versions.

Hence, the theme does not display many of the traditional blog elements (characteristic Wordpress clues), we may have come to expect.

The full blog functionality is intact, of course, should a user want to use it.

PowerBlogger is just a theme - it does not require any changes to the core code, whatsoever.

This theme is fully widgetized.

Indeed, each of the sidebars is separately widgetized, allowing you to use different widgets in each sidebar.

You are looking now at the Wide version. It has a fixed width of 920 pixels.

As you can see, there is plenty of room for 2 separate sidebars, while also providing a decently wide main column for content.

There is additionally a Narrow version which has just a single sidebar. It is also fixed width, set at 800 pixels.

Both versions have been coded using CSS stylesheets, making it quick and easy to adjust colours, fonts and detailed layout, if necessary.
